František Kupka (1871–1957)
In cooperation with the French Reunion de musées nationaux Grand Palais and Ateneum Art Museum in Helsinki, the National Gallery in Prague is preparing a retrospective exhibit of the works of František Kupka (1871-1957). The exhibit will present the works of František Kupka throughout his career, from early works in the 1890s to the abstract work from the 1950s. Thanks to cooperation with our French partner, we have managed to assemble a unique collection of oil paintings, work on paper, printed materials and documentation materials, which will be presented in the spring of 2018 at the Grand Palais in Paris, in transformed form in the autumn of 2018 in the National Gallery in Prague, and in the spring of 2019 at the Ateneum Art Museum in Helsinki.
The Prague  exhibit will include besides works from the National Gallery also various work from the collection of the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Guggenheim Museum in New York and the Albertina in Vienna. The chronologically designed exhibit will be divided into thematic units, which will make it possible to monitor the artistic path from symbolism to abstraction, during the creation of which Kupka was present.
