Jugglers, armourers, tinkers and other craftsmen are setting off to Loket to remember the life they used to lead during the times of King and Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV.
After a long seven hundred years the majestic Loket Castle is to return to the era when it was greatly regarded as an important defence point of West Bohemia by Charles IV, King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor. This monarch had spent some years of his childhood here, (although not of his own volition, simply because his father imprisoned him there) but in adulthood he often came back to indulge in some hunting activities in the surrounding forests. For this reason the town celebrations in Loket are devoted to him. You can drink to the health of Charles IV in the medieval pub, which will be at the centre of all the action during the celebrations.
The town and the castle of Loket are situated on the border of the Slavkov Forest protected landscape area and at the same time in the West Bohemian triangle of spas. So how about connecting a visit to the castle with a cycle trip along the River Ohře, which flows past the Slavkov Forest? You can also pop into Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad), Mariánské lázně or Františkovy lázně, famed for their thermal and cold water springs. Also worth visiting is Bečov nad Teplou Chateau, which houses the second most valuable artefact in the Czech Republic – the St. Maurus Reliquary.
