The exhibition Second Life of Charles IV shows how the king and emperor reigning in the 14th century became the most popular monarch in the history of the Czech Republic.
The exposition is organised by the National Gallery in collaboration with the National Technical Museum, however, its main organiser is the Charles University, which was, as its name suggests, founded by the emperor himself in 1348 and became the biggest university in the Czech Republic and one of the oldest ones in Europe. Therefore it comes as no surprise that it is also celebrating the 700th anniversary of its founder’s birth. The exhibition reviews, from a long-perspective, the contribution of Charles IV in the area of politics, history and culture.
