700 years of Charles IV – The Crown of the Kingdom exhibition
St. Vitus Cathedral at Prague Castle is truly a jewel of the city and the entire Czech Republic. It is also the most important building constructed under the patronage of King Charles IV.
At the beginning of the ninth century, there was already a house of God standing on the future site of St. Vitus Cathedral. The current appearance of this Prague gem was created between the years 1344 and 1929, with the work spanning almost 600 years. The credit for its importance without doubt goes to Charles IV, whose birth we are celebrating the 700th  anniversary of this year, as well as the famous builder Petr Parléř. You can learn more about these and other personalities who played an important role in the history of the Cathedral of Sts. Vitus, Wenceslas and Adalbert at the exhibition. The main attention will be focussed on those parts of the building, which were created during the reign of Charles IV.

Another part of the exhibition will commemorate the importance of the Cathedral as the burial site of Czech kings by displaying unique findings of medieval items. You will be able to see fragments of funeral garments from the Royal Tomb, which belonged to members of the Luxembourg dynasty, namely Charles IV, his wives and sons.
