700 Years of Charles IV – Year of the Luxembourgs at the Veveří Castle
The Moravian castle of Veveří will be among the places to join the celebrations of Charles IV’s 700th anniversary. The exhibition titled The Lion and the Eagle was created by the National Heritage Institute.
At the exhibition hosted by the Veveří Castle near Brno , you will learn about the powerful house of Luxembourg, to which Charles IV belonged. The castle was the seat of Moravian Margraves and both Charles and his father John of Luxembourg used it as residence to rule over the surrounding regions. The exhibition presents also other branches of the Luxembourg family that were influential in Moravia – such as Charles’ brother John Henry, who acted as a skillful diplomat, though shadowed by his brother. You will also learn about the tense relations between his sons that resulted in a war. Therefore, after Charles IV’s death his enlightened rule was followed by a period of lawlessness and robbery.
