Inscribed in the UNESCO list, Litomyšl is a true gem of Renaissance architecture that is symbolised by the Litomyšl Chateau. This structure and the complex around it will undergo major renovation referred to by locals as the resurrection. Keeping this in mind they have decided to conceive the whole of 2016 in the “Renaissance” spirit and have prepared a variety of cultural, educational and gastronomic events for each month.
Nonetheless, the most important period in Litomyšl will undoubtedly be the spring and summer. Late April/ early May will see the opening of the “spa” season. True, Litomyšl is not a spa town in the proper sense of the word, but the locals pride themselves on the town being “A Spa for the Mind” thanks to the special atmosphere of Litomyšl (Apr. 27, – May 1, 2016). In June Litomyšl holds one of the most significant cultural events in the Czech Republic, international opera festival Smetana’s Litomyšl (Jun. 9, – Jul. 3, 2016).
