The Year of Czech Music is an extraordinary cultural event which, since 1924, has commemorated important figures in Czech music, especially Bedřich Smetana (1824–1884), Antonín Dvořák (1841–1904) and Leoš Janáček (1854–1928). The program opens a series of New Year’s concerts that will take place simultaneously in several cities in the Czech Republic and abroad. In Smetana Hall of the Municipal House in Prague you will hear Dvořák’s Slavonic Dances, and you can likewise hear the works of well-known Czech composers in the Janáček Theater in Brno, in the Great Hall of the Municipal Meeting House in Pilsen, in the Prague Rudolfinum, and in St. Pölten, Austria.
