Jan Křížek (1919–1985) is one of the most original of the many Czech artists who settled in Paris in the last century. He lived in Paris from 1947 until his death and did much of his work there. He knew how to join elements of Czech art with the latest post-war art trends in Paris, finding his own unique means of expression. Major French theoreticians and artists, particularly Michel Tapié, Charles Estienne, André Breton, Jean Dubuffet, Pablo Picasso and René Duvillier, respected him. He presented his artworks in progressive galleries in Paris and took part in several major collective exhibition projects.
