The Famous Alfons Mucha
The Mucha Museum showcases the best of the world-famous Czech native’s work. In addition to the iconic Art Nouveau pieces, you’ll see many that have never been exhibited before, including Mucha’s early oil paintings, studies for decorative documents, items exploring Mucha’s fascination with Freemasonry, and study materials for The Slav Epic.
The entire exhibition begins with the life of Alphonse Mucha. Selected photographs from a private archive are on display, including a striking male nude that Mucha painted. In a pleasantly lit space dominated by crystal chandeliers, visitors can take a close look at Mucha’s most famous works: Princess Hyacinth, the Seasons cycle, Zodiac, and the poster featuring the famous French actress Sarah Bernhardt as Gismonda, who fell in love with Mucha’s art in Paris.
The Mucha Museum, with its grand 18th-century interiors, is a pride of Prague, the Czech Republic, and the foundation established by Mucha’s descendants, who care for the legacy of the co-founder of the Art Nouveau movement – and who are also behind this museum. A unique aspect of the exhibition, designed by renowned architect Eva Jiřičná, will be its regular updates to ensure the display remains engaging.
Art Nouveau Prague
Fans of Art Nouveau, this ornate and romantic style, will find plenty to admire in Prague: just a few minutes’ walk from the Mucha Museum is the stunning Municipal House, which hosts some of the finest classical music concerts. Right on Wenceslas Square, which Na Příkopě Street connects to, stands the renovated Hotel Evropa. You can stay there, enjoy lunch, or have coffee. If you arrive in Prague by train at the main railway station, take a few moments to visit the Fanta Café in the main building, featuring breathtaking murals.
