Old-new treasures to the apartment

The offer is diverse, but few can find but also repair design pieces from the last century. The owners of the Czech company NANOVO run a craft workshop, where they repair period furniture and sell tables, chairs or wall clocks from post-war Czechoslovakia.

"Perhaps these clocks were in all the offices, and perhaps everyone at home had this desk lamp. But now they are almost out of reach. It occurred to us that we would start looking for stylish furniture and accessories from Czechoslovakia. Before we put anything up for sale, we will fix it so that the customer is not surprised that he bought goods that will soon fall apart "says Jiří Mrázek, who founded a company NANOVO in 2011 with a classmate from primary school, Adam Karásk. They explore the quarters, look at vacated apartments, cellars or attics, and often discover another interesting object during a detective search, which can again serve as a complement to the interior. According to Mrázek, their trade was helped the most by the renowned Czech designer Jiří Jiroutka, who in 1958 invented a series of furniture called the U-450.

Famous brand

To this day, his story fascinates beginning Czech designers, because he sees that even from a small company, a designer can get to a world-famous brand. Jiří Jiroutek graduated from the School of Applied Arts in the 1950s and gradually worked his way up to independent designs in the company Interiér Praha. In 1958, the EXPO world show took place in Brussels, where Czechoslovakia scored, because the designers presented a number of original ideas and won awards from an international jury for them. Jiří Jiroutek also fascinated the colors and shapes from the Brussels collection and invented a series of oak cabinets, which can be assembled without tools and combined in color with other elements in the interior.
In 1968, Jiří Jiroutek received an offer from the owner of IKEA and worked in Sweden for several years as a designer and disassembly specialist.

Color mix

The stylish U-450 cabinets are now available not only in the original version, but also in new variants. The NANOVO team received approval from Jiří Jiroutek and started the production of this popular piece of furniture again. "On our website, you can choose whether you want an original or a modern replica. We produce them in several color combinations. You can order a version where it is black, white and yellow or you can choose a white-pink version, "says Jiří Mrázek.
