For some February means a cold and frosty winter and the eager anticipation of the spring, for others it is the month for lovers. And if you are one of those who celebrate St. Valentine’s Day, we have prepared for you ten ideas of where to set out for some romantic moments in the Czech Republic. If you are not a fan of this tradition, our list can help you to draw inspiration for enjoyable trips. You can choose from snow-covered mountains, warm spas, cosy chalets as well as luxurious hotels.

A place with a story

Romance in the snow is a classic that never disappoints. Downhill and cross-country skiing spiced up with dinner in a warm and cosy mountain chalet is an ideal combination for a Valentine’s break for both him and her. Fortunately, the Czech Republic offers a plethora of opportunities for this kind of enjoyment. Take for example the reconstructed Erlebachova bouda (Erlebach Chalet) in the popular  Krkonoše Mountains. Built more than 230 years ago, this famous mountain chalet has been inherently connected with the mountain range for years. It was named after Franz Erlebach, who used to offer accommodation in the chalet as well as refreshments to the first mountain guests. Apart from that he had great knowledge of the mystic Krkonoše Mountains. That was a very brief history of the romantic Erlebach Chalet. But what is even more romantic – is to stay in it. You will find it in the Svatý František (Saint Francis) Resort not far from the Špindlerův Mlýn  Ski Resort.

In a cosy cottage in the Beskids

When you come to visit Karolinka in the  Beskid Mountains (Karolinka Holiday Homes), you will feel as if you have wandered into a fairy-tale. This mountain range is renowned for its romantic chalets, excellent skiing conditions and easily-accessible sites of cultural interest. For example the oldest and largest Open-air Museum in Central Europe is situated just few kilometres away - in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm.

Jelenní kout

A Czech proverb describes places in the middle of nowhere as spots where only the foxes will bid you good night. In one chalet in the  Jizera Mountains they might be of a different opinion. As its name suggests, it is deer that will bid you good night in this place. The Jelení kout (Deer Corner) Cottage is a family business with a long tradition in catering dating back an incredible one hundred years.

Lazing in a warm bath

If the thought of snow-covered slopes and mountain peaks makes your teeth chatter and you would much rather imagine a warm soothing bath, you will mostly likely find spa resorts to be more interesting destinations for you. Every year internationally renowned spas such as Karlovy Vary and Mariánské lázně welcome large numbers of tourists who come to enjoy the unique hot water springs. An increasing popularity has been recorded by the romantic spa town of Poděbrady. Dominating the whole town, the majestic Poděbrady Castle, used to conceal a mineral water spring which was drilled in its courtyard in the early 20th century. Since then visitors have continued coming here for spa breaks and to indulge in relaxation and some sightseeing. Good traffic accessibility is another advantage, since Prague is only just over 50 kilometres away.

A bit of everything

If you can’t make up your mind whether to go to the mountains or a spa, you might appreciate the following tip; Wellness hotel V nebi (In Heaven Wellness Hotel) combines the beauty of the mountains with body care treatments. Owing to its location between the Jizera Mountains  and Krkonoše Mountains it prides itself on the magnificent backdrop commanding beautiful views. In addition to pleasing your eyes, the hotel staff will make sure your body gets some enjoyable pampering too. And that’s not all – your ears can look forward to some relaxation as well as. Peace and quite is guaranteed here if only for the reason that the hotel adheres to the policy of not accommodating children under 15 years of age.

Fairy-tale in Český Krumlov

Not many towns can boast such a fairy-tale atmosphere as Český Krumlov. A romantic castle on top of a steep hill above a meandering river and picturesque houses on the banks are the reason why this little town in South Bohemia is a sought-after destination for thousands of tourists every year. Many of the town’s charming buildings are used as guest houses, so there is certainly no shortage of romantic accommodation in Český Krumlov.  To give just one example - a suite in Krumlovský mlýn (Krumlov Mill) is definitely worth a try.

Contentment with a scent of wood

Situated just 20 minute’s drive from the centre of Brno and yet outside the main traffic routes, the peaceful Farma Noe offers luxurious accommodation in the heart of the Moravian Karst. Each room is furnished using a different type of wood; you can choose for example a walnut room with a whirlpool or an oak suite. The whole farm is topically equipped keeping its name in mind, so don’t be surprised when you come across a boat in the middle of the Moravian Karst.

Amidst the vineyards

Staying longer in Moravia, we can thoroughly recommend the Café Fara. Its name could suggest that it is a coffee house. However, Café Fara is not only that – it also offers accommodation in a reconstructed barn and old school. You can take your pick from various rooms with tempting names – such as the Lavender or Almond Room. And why should you come to stay here? If for nothing else – then definitely for its location – it is situated in Klentnice, in the middle of Pálava, a famous wine-growing region. Romantic strolls through vineyards or along the Nové Mlýny (New Mills) Dam are a must and the wine will cater for the evening entertainment.

Great attention to detail is paid regarding the comfort and contentment of both younger and older guests. In winter visitors can make use of various equipment for games in the snow. And in the summer they won’t be bored either.
