Tons of crops would be senselessly left in the field or in the orchard after the harvest every year. Their only “defect” is the fact that they do not meet the aesthetic criteria of the retail chains. Groups who set out on a rescue mission in the area around Prague can harvest these vegetables or fruit, donate them to the needy and prevent waste of high-quality food!

Gleaning is harvesting crops that would not usually be sellable due to their shape, size or colour. However, farmers have expended a large amount of resources on growing them: hundreds of hours of labour, as well as water. If you harvest the fruit and vegetables, these resources were not wasted in vain. And the fact that these crops are then given to people who would not normally be able to afford them, is also important.  This includes people in shelters, some seniors, or people on the edge of poverty - for whom these foods are a great help.
You can arrange with the coordinator to meet at a specific place in Prague, from where you will travel to the field together and spend several hours harvesting crops in the fresh air. The DobroPolníci organisation then hands over the harvested vegetables or fruit to other organisations who focus on helping people in need.
