Hand-made jewellery decorated with Japanese pearls, satin or haematite – all these can be found in the Zorya collection. The brand was established in 2011 by Zdeněk Vacek and Daniel Pošta and is familiar to customers from Los Angeles to the Maldives.
Co-operation between the two young designers began long before the Zorya brand was established. In 2005, Zdeněk, who studied the goldsmith trade, and Daniel, an architect and designer, received the Talent of the Year award at the Designblok event, the largest design event in Central Europe.
Success followed immediately after the Zorya brand was established in 2011. In the very first year, their Virus jewellery collection received the Czech Grand Design award and was subsequently displayed at exhibitions in Paris, Munich, New York and Milan.
The Virus collection contains jewellery created from linen cords and crystals. Daniel described the creation of the jewellery in one of his interviews: "It takes about three weeks to grow the crystal; during this time, the cord is soaked in solutions and these gradually crystallize". He also added that the jewellery must be checked and turned during this process, and the temperature of the bath must also be regulated. Even the cords themselves are not a simple matter – the material comes from Hungary, is pre-treated in Vienna and processed in the Czech Republic. The portfolio of the brand now contains 10 collections using precious metals, surgical steel, linen cords, pearls and specially grown crystals.
Where did the mysterious name Zorya come from? "All designers look for a mythical figure around whom they create their designs. She should be strong and elegant but, at the same time, fragile. We found our ideal in Zorya, a Slavonic goddess, who can change from the evening star into the morning star, from an old woman into a young girl and back again. She has no particular shape, age or hair colour. However, she has a divine individuality that is emphasised by our jewellery”, explain the designers on their web site.
